HI, WE’RE KARIN & DAVID
Karin has been passionate about animals for as long as she can remember. In 2008, she started a dog walking & pet sitting business to help fund various dog rescue groups. When she realized that understanding of dog behavior played a massive role in keeping dogs in homes and out of shelters, she dove in head first. After completing a certification program and apprenticeship, Karin started her own training business in 2010 and hasn’t stopped learning since.
In 2009, David found himself in a group dog training class with Charli, a dog and human aggressive cane corso puppy. As he learned to manage Charli’s behavior, David realized that he was so wrong about the core principals of canine behavior, despite spending his entire life around dogs. Somewhere between this revelation and his genuine love for dogs, David found a new desire to work with dogs and become their advocate. He began an apprenticeship and subsequently started his own training company in 2014.
In 2015, Karin & David met in the parking lot of a national dog competition. By 2018 they were married and living in Los Angeles, but still maintained their separate dog training businesses for the sake of their sanity. After traveling together across the country for dog training events, workshops, and leading their own seminars, it was time for the inevitable. They moved to Portland and founded Blackwood Canine Company.
